South Seneca Sportsmen’s Club

General Meeting

18 Members 12 Clubs represented

Meeting called to order by President Tom Mitchell Jr. and pledge allegiance to the flag open the meeting.

Minutes:
Corrections noted and minutes were accepted. Motion made to accept. Motion carried.

Treasurer:
Treasurer’s report made by John Andrews all accounts was read.  Dues paid by the following clubs:  FL Conservation Club, Lodi, Rumseyville, South Seneca , Seneca White Deer, Waterloo Rifle & Pistol, Harry Pentingill – Individual Member.
Motion made to accept.  Motion carried.

Letter read by President from Seneca Schuyler Wildlife.  They are dissolving their club and remaining balance of money has been given to the federation.  President expressed his dismay at their closing.

Correspondences:
US Sportsmen Alliance has sent a letter to renew our membership.  Discussion was listened to and motion made not to rejoin. 1 opposed.   Motion carried.

Speaker:
John Dawson – Deer Task Force:  Seneca Co. Schuyler Co., Tompkins Co.
8S Talk Force:  Seneca Co. Included but is the 8S area of lower Seneca County.  White tail deer has been studied for the past 5 years.  Noted a 20% increase in deer.  Noted there has been a reduction in Nuisance Deer Permits. Affiliated members are Farmers, Wineries, Highway Safety and Land Owners. Survey passed out. 
8S starts at Main St. Willard up 96A to Brewers Septic to 4 corners in Ovid. Down Co Rd. 139 then down to Cayuga Lake.

Seneca White Deer:
Tours will begin on April 17th, 18th and 19th, and will run for 3 weekends.

FWMB:
John Andrews gave a detailed report on meeting.  Deer Take was 53,000 Deer through out NY State and was lower than 2008.

 

Committee Reports:
Banquet Committee:
Advertisements are coming in as scheduled.  Banquet will be on April 23rd at the Waterloo Sportsmen’s Club.

NYSCC Legislative Meeting:
Gary Chave reported on NYSCC Legislative meeting.  Hunting & Fishing Fees will be going up across the board.  This includes out of state licenses as well. 

Salt Water Fishing License discussed.  Fishermen do not want this license to go through.
Sportsmen need to contact their legislative officials to oppose the increases.

Empire Farm Days:
Raffle Tickets will be going out soon for their raffle for all counties to sell tickets.

Scholarship:
Paper work will be sent out before the April meeting to the 5 area schools for the C. Scott Sampson Scholarship.

Old Business:
Hunter Safety Course Instructors:
Bill Dadson reported that 4 new Hunter Safety Instructors courses will be held. 

New Business:
McIntosh Shoot:
Jim Williamson from South Seneca spoke about the upcoming Don McIntosh shoot to be held at their club on April 18th.  Tickets are $30.00 and will include a Chicken BBQ.

Scholarship:
Jim Williamson informed members that South Seneca will be offering a scholarship for graduates that will be entering the Environmental Conservation field. They have offered this to the southern end of the county and now want to include the northern end as well.

Wayne County:
Gary Chave reported on Wayne county banquet and they thanked Gary and Barb Wells for information on how to have a successful banquet.

Farmers Dinner:
Kuneytown will be hosting the Farmers Dinner on April 18th.

Motion made to adjourn.  Motion carried.
